Next AI+M Webinar on February 23, 2023

The webinar series "AI+M - Innovation Materials with Artificial Intelligence" enters into the new year with leading speakers! After hearing a lot about computer simulation, digital development of new metal alloys and Artificial Intelligence in the past webinars, we now turn to a very specific application area: the use of (magnesium-based) materials in the medical field.

Prof. Dr. Regine Willumeit-Römer is Professor at the Faculty of Technology of Kiel University for the subject "Biological Interfaces of Implants" and Director of the Institute for "Metallic Biomaterials" at Hereon. On Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 11-12, she will talk about "AI, simulation and modeling for the optimization of degradable metallic implants" as part of the AI+M Webinar.

Especially for products like implants, the right combination of material properties and biological requirements is crucial, for example to enable disappearance without additional intervention after the healing process. In this context, AI, simulation and modeling must go hand in hand in such a way that costs as well as animal and human testing can be reduced and the safety of these products can be ensured.

About Prof. Dr. Regine Willumeit-Römer:

Prof. Dr. Regine Willumeit-Römer received her PhD in physics on the structural characterization of ribosomes (University of Hamburg). She used spin-dependent neutron scattering, an approach that also gave her the opportunity to work at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. She also received her Habilitation and Venia Legendi in Biochemistry on the structure-function relationship in ribosomes at the University of Hamburg, where she held a professorship in "Structural Biology" from 2009 to 2014. While working at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon (formerly HZG) and teaching structural biology in Hamburg, Regine Willumeit-Römer became head of the department "Macromolecular Structure Research" at HZG. Her research area shifted from structural biology to implant materials, especially biodegradable magnesium materials. Since 2014, she has been a professor at the Faculty of Engineering at Kiel University in the field of "Biological Interfaces of Implants". In 2015, she became director of the Institute for "Metallic Biomaterials" at Hereon. She has published 320 peer-reviewed papers (H-index 53, WoS January 2023).

About the AI+M Webinar

Bringing together the topics of materials development and AI - that was the goal with which the webinar series "AI+M - Innovation Materials with Artificial Intelligence" was launched in the summer of 2022. In cooperation with the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg e.V. (ARIC), FEHRMANN has created a platform that brings together researchers, futurists, digital experts and materials scientists, exploring the intersection of AI and materials innovation and driving the development of new materials.

The webinar will be recorded - the recording will be made available to all interested parties afterwards. To register, visit: https://www.eventbrite.de/e/ai-simulation-modelling-for-optimization-of-degradable-metallic-implants-tickets-524690111247
